Free Training Session On Campaigning - 4th July 2014

Spotlight on Campaigning
Friday 4th July 9.30am - 11.30am
Community Action: MK Boardroom

This spotlight session is for you if your organisation is beginning to think about campaigning, but you don't really know where to start.
We will be discussing campaigning with several local groups who are already active campaigners. They will talk to us about their successes, the challenges they faced, how they gather people around their cause and what they would do differently if they were beginning now. Also MP Iain Stewart will be joining us to talk about how to lobby on behalf of your group….this is not a lobbying opportunity more a chance to find out how to go about it when you need to.
Linda Inoki will be joining us from Xplain and Emma Phillips from the Craftivist Collective
Linda Inoki has followed a successful career in corporate communications, public relations and journalism, working for the Leukaemia Research Fund, Japan Times, Financial Times and BBC World Service. On returning to Milton Keynes in 2007 she  was so concerned about the impact of poor development on the quality of local life that she started Xplain, a grass-roots campaign for better architecture in MK. Notable successes include exposing the scandal of Secklow Gate Bridge (2011-2012), and leading the biggest outcry in MK’s history over drastic plans to demolish both the bridge, and Market Square, to build a new Primark. This led to the collapse of a £40m planning application which had been widely tipped for approval. Xplain supporters come from all walks of life and the voluntary group now influences policy as well as specific plans.
So come prepared with those burning questions and join us to start exploring the world of campaigning.
